ABOUT

Karen Deakin is a landscape and wildlife photographer based near Edinburgh in Scotland. Completely self-taught, Karen travels extensively within the UK and beyond and has had images published across a wide range of media.

"I have been very fortunate to travel to some of the most amazing destinations in the world with my camera," says Karen. "Enjoying both landscape and wildlife photography has given me the great privilege of capturing everything from the Aurora Borealis in the Arctic Circle to a lion kill in Africa's Masai Mara. Moving between photographic genres has also benefitted my skill set, requiring me to adapt confidently from pre-planned landscape scenes to fast moving and reactive wildlife shoots. This keeps my photography mind stimulated and my images compelling."

Karen has received a number of awards and commendations over recent years, including 3rd place in the CEPIC Global Stock Photography Awards, Runner Up in the Sea & Coast category of the Scottish Nature Photography Awards, and a number of commendations in The UK Landscape Photographer of the Year and Scottish Landscape Photographer of the Year competitions.
