COMMENDATION IN UK LANDSCAPE PHOTOGRAPHER OF THE YEAR 2018 COMPETITION

One of Karen’s images, ‘Ard Awakening’ has been commended in the 2018 UK Landscape Photographer of the Year competition.

Karen describes the image as “A beautiful crisp autumnal morning at Loch Ard in Scotland. Early morning mist skimmed the surface of the loch as the geese honked their presence and the sunrise softly awakened the sublime landscape around them.”

‘Ard Awakening’ appears in the Awards book and is on display in the LPOTY exhibition at London Waterloo station.

FORTHCOMING SCOTTISH LANDSCAPE PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBITION, WATERMILL GALLERY, ABERFELDY

Karen will be featuring six of her images in a forthcoming exhibition, organised by founder of the Scottish Landscape Photographer of the Year competition and due to open next week. The exhibition will run from 10th March to 30th April in the Watermill Gallery in Aberfeldy, before moving on to the Highland Bookshop in Fort William. Opening event takes place 2.30pm on Saturday.

CEPIC STOCK PHOTOGRAPHY AWARD 2017

Karen has won third prize in the 2017 CEPIC Stock Photography Awards for her image of a herd of elephants dusting off in Botswana. The image was chosen from among 1500 of the worlds most prestigious picture agencies and photographers in one of the toughest competitions in years. SCOTTISH LANDSCAPE PHOTOGRAPHER OF THE YEAR 2016 COMMENDATION

Karen’s image ‘Snowy Lochan Na h-Achlaise’ taken in Rannoch Moor, the Scottish Highlands has been commended in the in the ‘Four Seasons’ category of the Scottish Landscape Photographer of the Year 2016 competition.

The image appears in the Awards book with Karen writing, “Arriving before dawn at Lochan na h-Achlaise, and just after heavy snow fall, I was fortunate to witness some beautiful light illuminating a desolate winter landscape as the sun rose into the sky.”

RUNNER UP - SCOTTISH NATURE PHOTOGRAPHY AWARDS 2016 - SEA AND COAST CATEGORY

Karen’s image 'Scotland's Alcatraz’, Bass Rock is Runner-Up in the Sea & Coast Category of the Scottish Nature Photography Awards 2016.

Says Karen of the image, “The Bass Rock is such an iconic landmark in Scotland and when approximately 150,000 gannets descend each year, it truly does become a jaw-dropping place to be around. Having landed on the Rock twice and photographed it from the shore, this image was taken when sailing in a boat, giving a better sense of scale, the dark exposure subtly alluding to the Rock’s foreboding history.”

UK LANDSCAPE PHOTOGRAPHER OF THE YEAR 2016 - 2 X IMAGE COMMENDATIONS

Two of Karen’s images have been commended in the 2016 UK Landscape Photographer of the Year.

The ‘Lights of Glencoe’ was the first image to be commended in the Landscape category, also featuring in the Sunday Times Choice Selection http://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/eye-of-the-storm-2k369gxrs . Karen describes the image as “A fleeting moment of beautiful light spilling through Glencoe as the sun was setting. Rain from the moody clouds overhead made this image difficult to take as the wind drove water onto the lens, but a little perseverance and the camera captured the last light of the day slipping behind the mountains.”

The second image to be commended, also in the Landscape category, was ‘Mountain Storm around Lohan na h’Achlaise’. Says Karen of the image, “Early morning capture of some moody clouds sweeping across the mountains surrounding Lohan na h’Achlaise. Dramatic but peaceful, and truly beautiful to see, the scene depicts everything that makes Scotland a very special landscape indeed.”

Both images will be in the Awards book and on display at the London Waterloo Exhibition.

SCOTTISH LANDSCAPE PHOTOGRAPHER OF THE YEAR 2015 COMMENDATION

One of Karen’s images, ‘Dramatic Beinn Dorain’ has been commended in the Landscape category of the Scottish Landscape Photographer of the Year 2015 competition.

The image appears in the Awards book with Karen writing, “Captured en route to Glen Coe. High winds, falling snow, and driving conditions almost treacherous enough to send us back home, but perseverance was rewarded with this stunning scene, the light lasting just a few seconds before it was gone.”

SCOTTISH LANDSCAPE PHOTOGRAPHER OF THE YEAR 2014 COMMENDATION

One of Karen’s images, 'Sunrise on the Royal Mile, Edinburgh' has been commended in the Urban category of the Scottish Landscape Photographer of the Year 2014 competition.

The image appears in the Awards book with Karen writing, “A shot taken in April 2014 when, after an early morning start with the camera, I was making my way up the Royal Mile to photograph the Castle. Enroute, I just happened to turn around to witness the most incredible scene before me - the pavement leading right to the sun bursting from the side of the clock tower, warm light being cascaded along the length of the street, and the three iconic telephone boxes literally lighting up at the dawning of a new day. I never made it to the Castle that morning, and that is something I will never regret….
