Still being a novice photographer, I have often wondered how I would feel if one of my photos was recognised as being just that little bit special. Maybe winning a photographic competition, being published in newspaper - that kind of thing. 'One Day......' thoughts........
So you can imagine my absolute delight when the amazingly talented New Zealand Artist, Karen Neal, asked to paint 'Love on the Rocks' (below) in oils!
What an absolute honour - and definitely better than winning any competition!
Karen's website is most definitely worth a visit (www.wild-impressions.co.nz) - you will find a treasure trove of beautiful wildlife paintings, pet portraits, portraits and landscapes. Commissions are accepted too! Karen works in Pastel and Oil Paintings, Graphite Drawings and Scratchboard and is firmly committed to supporting animal and conservation causes through her art.
And if you visit Karen's 'On the Easel' page you will be able to see the work-in-progress of Love on The Rocks. At the time of writing Karen is at stage two of four, working up the subtle colours in the painting with a second coat of oils. A tiny rigger brush was needed for detailing around the eyes and the fine stripes around the bird's face. The final third and fourth coat will be working up the detailing in the feathers and getting the colours right.
Thank you Karen - can't wait to see the finished piece!
